About Joyanne Kohler, M.A., L.Ac.
My passion is finding solutions to ease pain and improve the overall quality of life for all my patients.
Since the time I was a small child, I always have been attracted to the health sciences. My earliest childhood memory of “what I want to be when I grow up” was a scientist who cured arthritis. While I may not cure arthritis, I believe my contribution to society still lies in assisting people in restoring their health and happiness.
My life’s journey is somewhat eclectic. I began as a student of flute performance at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. While in college, I met my husband, Bill. After he and I graduated with our bachelor’s we were married and I accompanied Bill on the Watson Fellowship, studying the art museums in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. After our year in China, we returned to Saint Paul and I began my career as a political consultant / graphic designer. During these seven years, I felt I was missing something important in my life. While working, I was studying East Asian studies and pre-medicine at the University of Minnesota, anticipating entering medical school when I completed the prerequisites.
I became interested in acupuncture when I was pregnant nine years ago. I woke up with the worst neck pain of my life (it was worse than my subsequent 45+ hours of labor). After three weeks of excruciating pain, on the advice of my doctor I saw an acupuncturist. I did and after two treatments my pain was gone.
I knew then I wanted to share this blessing and help others in pain.
I am Board certified and licensed in the State of Wisconsin. I graduated summa cum laude with my master's degree in acupuncture from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN.
